Understanding Kitchen Installation and Working With Your Remodeling Contractor

Understanding Kitchen Installation and Working With Your Remodeling Contractor

Exciting! A Contractor is Installing Your New Kitchen!

New countertops, new cabinets, new flooring, painting, and extra storage space! Is my new kitchen installed may be the thought racing through your mind. Small problem before you is your contractor installation has not started!

Remodeling Contractors Make Mistakes
You are working with a contractor you trust. Contractors are humans and even when you are working with the best kitchen installing crew in the United States and Canada, this does not mean that mistakes are not going to happen. It also takes time to install your new cabinets, to fit your countertops correctly, and to do the kitchen remodeling work you requested.

Remodeling a Kitchen Takes Time
Time goes so slowly... when you are the home owner having your kitchen remodeled. From the remodeling contractor or installation crews point of view - they may have done a hundred small items in a day to ensure quality work when remodeling your new kitchen that you will never know about such as scribing your new kitchen countertops to the walls and sanding the new countertops to fit.

Kitchen Renovations With Wall Movement Takes Time!
You asked your remodeling contractor to move a wall to include that new pantry cabinet. You now will have the extra kitchen storage space! Changing walls and opening your kitchen into the dining and living areas is popular. Kitchens have developed into the central gathering place for homes and remodeling needs to happen to gain your extra room. Understand when remodeling a kitchen versus simply removing cabinets and reinstalling cabinets and countertops, your remodeling project has changed considerably and your time frame for your new kitchen just doubled.

Kitchen Remodeling Blues
Is my kitchen remodeling complete yet? The remodeling crew cut off my electricity! The guys installing the cabinets are so Noisy! They cut off my phone line and I couldn't watch my T. V. for a whole day! They cleaned up and protect my home with plastic, still the dust, and dirt in the air went everywhere. My head is ringing from all the noise! The cabinet laminating crew for our countertops left smells and fumes in our home that almost made us sick. I am ready for the work to be done - NOW! :) You and your kitchen remodeling crew both! Remember your dream kitchen will be yours - and the remodeling saying "Things must get worse for things to get better!"

Understand Installation Time Frame
Is it really fair to expect your kitchen remodeling contractors to have the work completed in one week because of the expectations for your relatives? Prior to the work starting communicate a realistic time frame with your kitchen contractor. Also understand with your remodeling crew the time space allotted for your new cabinet installation and know it may go past the expected completion date, even with experienced remodeling crews.

Good Kitchen Remodeling Crews
A good kitchen remodeling crew takes care of the customer, fixes mistakes, cleans up, has a certain location(s) for tool storage, and does the kitchen remodeling at a professional level carefully executing the plans of your new kitchen design. When installing your kitchen even the best kitchen remodeling crew may make mistakes. It helps to remember the phrase stated in the remodeling industry - "Mistakes are only mistakes if you leave the mistakes".

Open Communication With Your Kitchen Remodeling Contractor
Agreeing with your remodeling contractor understanding who is responsible for what is essential. If there is storage space you would like included with your new kitchen plan this during the kitchen design process. If you wanted a new pantry cabinet for extra storage space, the built in pantry closet or added cabinets must be in your original plans before the remodeling has started! You can't change your kitchen design once the cabinets are ordered and the remodeling has started with out stopping everything! Often the delivery time for new cabinets (Even Stock Cabinets) is 9 - 12 weeks so changing your cabinet design will stop your installation. Changes at this stage - May also add mega dollars.

Riding a Roller Coaster
Understand that taking on the challenge of a kitchen remodeling project can be an emotional roller coaster. You are on top of the world - Your remodeling is happening so quickly! Your work progresses onto the final trim and countertop installation. These items along with touch up painting seem to happen slowly. Relax! As your new kitchen is finished all will be worth while!

Summary:
Agree with your contractor on time frames.
Agree on specifics for work to be done.
Understand you may not have power, phone, or cable service.
Remember "things must get worse before they get better."
