About how much for a deck?
I'm thinking of covering a flat slab patio i have in the back of my house with a wooden deck

It measures about 34' x 15'

Its fairly level and like I said, there's slab beneath most of that.

Any idea - ballpark what I'm looking at in material costs? Also, wonder what a tradesmen might charge to just do it me?

Million Dollar Question! :-)

Deck Pricing Depends on individual factors, timing of your project and the schedule demands of the contractor, the quality level you expect, the Service (How quickly and professionally the work gets done, and many many other similar questions.

RemodelingEstimates.com gives free online estimates.

I have seen similiar all treated decks estimates start at around $3500. $1500 - $2000ish materials. This Pricing would be with good smaller contractors who are fast, and also with poor builders.

Deck Estimates often range from $5100 - $7500 if all treated and basic. Broken up decks with composite materials is a whole new ball game. Then the quotes go by materials and extra is added for estimated labor versus square foot and stairs, railings, pricing.

What is up with giving out deck pricing information to home owners here? We like to have the jump on them when providing deck estimates. If they know about what a deck costs to build then how can we seem good when we tell em a deck usually costs around 15,000 to build but since i like you I'll build the deck for $7,000?

Isn't there something somewhere about keeping builder pricing information to ourselves?

What do you thing builders?

Should there be?

Great Infor.

Thanks for sharing.

Pricing sounds a bit low for the upper Ohio region but very close.

Decking material keep going up in pricing like everything else too, and contractors have to raise rates with gas pricing.

New Deck Pricing for a cost for building a pressure treated deck

Getting 3 quotes from deck building contractors is recommended.

There are so many variables:
Deck Size
Shape
Deck Surround
Railing type
Stairway (s)

Charges are applied as a separate fee for demolition or removal of old decks.
$2 - $7 a sq ft is a stated book value for demolition of decks pending on if they are enclosed with other variables.

For building a Post and beam wood deck with a 12’ x 12’ http://www.homeplansforfree.com/Free-Deck-Plan-Designs/thumbnails.php?album=6 size the book value amount
with 5/4" pressure treated plank is 9.77 Materials 8.05 Labor 17.82 per square foot total plus a 15% contingency and profit margin rate.

For a 12x12 deck size http://www.homeplansforfree.com/Free-Deck-Plan-Designs/displayimage.php?pos=-52 $4,000.00 should cover you in many areas for a basic pressure treated deck.
